Prof. dr. Caspar Van den Berg

President

Caspar van den Berg (Angerlo, 1980) has been President of Universities of the Netherlands since 1 June 2024. He was appointed for a four-year term. In addition, he is Professor of Public Institutions and Governance at the University of Groningen and Visiting Professor at Leiden University.
Previously, Van den Berg served as Dean and Professor of Public Administration at the University of Groningen. From January 2022 to September 2024, he was a member of the Senate (Eerste Kamer der Staten Generaal) for the People’s Party for Freedom and Democracy (VVD).
Van den Berg studied at University College Utrecht, obtained his master’s degree from the London School of Economics and Political Science, and earned his PhD at Leiden University.
