Shaping a holistic and inclusive future for European students and learners, and their society
YUFE brings together ten young, research-intensive universities and partners across Europe. The alliance strives to become a successful model of a socially responsible European University based on a set of European values.
YUFE is building a European learning community where students, staff, researchers and citizens can learn and work across borders. Students can enrich their degree with courses and activities from partner universities, while universities develop new ways to share education, services and opportunities.
YUFE shows how European cooperation can strengthen education, skills and civic engagement, while connecting universities more closely to the societal challenges faced by their regions. Its work focuses on themes such as sustainability, European citizenship, digital transformation, and urban and regional resilience.
Dr Peter Vermeer, Head of the YUFE Bachelor’s Programme Committee, Maastricht University 'Through the YUFE Bachelor, Maastricht University shows what European cooperation can mean in practice: students in Heerlen work with European peers and local communities on real urban sustainability challenges.'
A clear example of YUFE’s impact is the Joint Bachelor in Urban Sustainability Studies. The programme gives students a European classroom for a shared challenge: how cities and regions can become more sustainable and inclusive. Students follow a joint programme, learn in different European contexts, and work on real-world sustainability issues with peers, teachers, and external partners. They study at three to four different universities across Europe and personalise their studies through YUFE minors. The Bachelor programme results in a degree awarded by seven European Universities.
