Leading the way in e-sealed micro-credentials
ECIU University, coordinated by the University of Twente, is a first-phase European University Alliance which focuses reshaping the higher education landscape through innovation, education, entrepreneurial mindset, and research.
It offers flexible learning pathways that go beyond traditional degree programmes. Students, professionals, and lifelong learners can design their own learning journey, tailored to their needs and ambitions.
At the core of this approach is challenge-based learning, where learners work in multidisciplinary teams on real-life challenges provided by industry, cities, and societal stakeholders. These learning experiences are recognised through micro-credentials: short, certified learning units that focus on specific skill development and competences.

ECIU University has reached a major milestone: it is the first European University Alliance to issue e-sealed micro-credentials. This makes ECIU a pioneer in the digital recognition of learning.
An e-sealed micro-credential is more than a certificate. It carries a secure digital signature that proves its authenticity and quality across Europe. Issued via the European Digital Credentials for Learning platform, it ensures that skills and knowledge are transparent, trusted, and easily shareable between institutions and employers.
This innovation supports student mobility and lifelong learning. Learners can store their credentials in a digital wallet, build a personal portfolio, and showcase their skills anywhere in Europe. It also reduces fraud and simplifies verification processes.
By combining flexible learning pathways, challenge-based learning and micro-credentials, ECIU University is building a future-proof education system: multidisciplinary, accessible and aligned with societal needs.
