European university Network to promote equitable Life, sustaInability and Global engagement through Higher education Transformation
ENLIGHT is a European alliance of universities joining forces to tackle the challenges of today and tomorrow. By connecting knowledge, innovation and talent across borders, it creates opportunities for students and researchers to learn together internationally and make a real difference. Its work focuses on key themes like health, sustainability, digitalisation and inclusion, with a strong emphasis on interdisciplinary learning and hands-on research that connects theory to real-world impact. The partner universities are rooted in vibrant European cities that serve as regional hubs and living labs — places where education, research and society come together to turn ideas into practical solutions.
ENLIGHT promotes challenge-based learning and international collaboration. The GroUp initiative is a clear example, bringing together universities, public and private partners to co-create solutions to real societal challenges.
Launched in 2020 around ageing populations and personalized health and welfare, GroUp connected the University of Groningen and Uppsala University in a cross-border learning experience. Students worked in multidisciplinary teams, combining online preparation with an intensive workshop in Stockholm, where they developed solutions with input from academics and external partners.
Since then, GroUp has addressed diverse topics, including healthcare, student career development and climate communication, showing how collaboration across borders can lead to real impact.
