Jacob Jolij
Jacob Jolij (1979) is head of Research and Impact and leads the team that focuses on matters such as academic integrity, the PhD system and the supervision of sector plans and starter and stimulation grants, as well as the broad social impact of research, from the Academic Startup Competition to open science. As the domain leader, he monitors the correlation between all these different aspects, with the underlying broad vision of us wanting to make Dutch research – which is already world-class – even better, but also for this knowledge to find its way to society even more easily.
Jacob has an academic background – he holds a PhD in psychology from the University of Amsterdam and has worked as a researcher and assistant professor in Switzerland and England and since 2008 at the University of Groningen. In addition, he was head of the Research Support department of the Faculty of Behavioural and Social Sciences in Groningen from 2017 to 2021. Jacob specialises in the fundamentals of consciousness research, an area in which he has frequently been published in scientific journals, and also regularly appears in the media as an expert in this field. In 2020, his book ‘Wat is bewustzijn nou eigenlijk?’ (‘What actually is consciousness?’) was published by Nieuw Amsterdam.
