Myrte Berendse

Myrte Berendse (b. 1978) has been head of the Education Department since March 2018. She supervises the team that is responsible for education policy in a broad sense, including lecturer professionalisation, admission to university education programmes, the acceleration plan, the teaching agenda, alignment with the job market, accreditation and quality assurance, and language policy. 


Myrte studied Socio-Cultural Sciences at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam (VU Amsterdam). Before joining the Universiteiten van Nederland, Myrte served as a policy adviser in the Administrative Affairs department at the VU Amsterdam. Prior to that, she worked at the VU’s Faculty of Social Sciences. As an organisational anthropologist, Myrte carried out action-oriented research into processes of cultural change and administrative decision-making. She also taught courses within the Culture, Organisation and Management programme and supervised students during their final research projects. Myrte completed her PhD in 2013 with a dissertation titled ‘Authoring Cultural Change’, which focused on the strategic use of language in legitimising organisational change.
