From 30 August, university students and staff will no longer have to maintain the 1.5-metre distance within the buildings. This will provide more opportunities for physical education, such as tutorials and practical training. Good news for students and staff, who will be able to meet on campus more often again after such a long period of time. However, a range of existing and new security measures will apply in the university buildings for students, lecturers and support staff. All these measures aim to ensure a safe and responsible start to the academic year.
 

A new measure in the coming period is a maximum group size of 75 students in each independent room. This means:

• In the open air on the campus, the usual rules for society as a whole apply. This means that a distance of 1.5 metres must be maintained here.
• Lectures can be attended physically by a maximum of 75 students. Lecturers are not included in this figure. Universities will also offer these lectures online (or at least partly) as much as possible.
• A maximum of 75 people can study in libraries in each independent room.
• The canteens can accommodate a maximum of 75 people.
   

Where libraries and canteens have been designated as a pickup location, the maximum of 75 people does not apply. Nor does this measure apply to entrances and other transit spaces. However, you will need to wear face masks in these places. The maximum group size of 75 is mandatory until the government decides to end all the coronavirus measures that are still in place. This will be 1 November at the earliest.

Safety measures
The universities consider it important to provide a safe environment for students and lecturers and therefore make every effort to do so. The following measures will continue to apply at all universities in the period ahead:

• First of all, the applicable hygiene and health measures naturally still apply. Wash your hands frequently, sneeze in your elbow and stay at home if you develop symptoms.
• Universities have set up walking routes. Follow these walking routes and, if necessary, the instructions of the stewards who are present on the campus.
• Wearing face masks is mandatory when moving around, for example in the building, in the lecture hall or in the classroom. Face masks can be removed when sitting in a fixed seat and during an educational activity.
• Want to start studying? Get vaccinated! In order to make this even easier, mobile vaccination locations are being arranged at an increasing number of universities in consultation with the GGD (Municipal Health Service). You can also obtain information about vaccinations here. 
  
   
• Take advantage of the free self-tests that can be ordered from the government and via your university. Students and staff are advised to self-test twice a week, regardless of their vaccination status. 
  
  
   
• Good ventilation will be ensured in the buildings.
• Universities are closely monitoring the situation and are in regular contact with the GGD.
• Universities are and will remain in contact with lecturers, support staff and students who, for individual reasons, are unable to handle the current situation. Customisation is and remains important under these difficult circumstances.
