Dutch universities are looking to train more academically trained teachers. This will contribute to solving the teacher shortage, but it should also result in more diversity and better-quality school teams in primary, secondary and senior secondary vocational education. Universities of the Netherlands is working on various projects, together with the Interuniversity Committee for Teacher Training (Interuniversitaire Commissie Lerarenopleidingen, ICL) and partners in the field of education, to train more academically trained teachers and make sure they stay in this profession.

Today, Universities of the Netherlands is launching the website www.universitaireaanpaklerarentekort.nl. This website features information about university-level teacher-training programmes and what universities are doing to tackle the teacher shortage. You will also find different routes to becoming a teacher, information about the Administrative Agreement for Flexible Teacher-Training Programmes (Bestuursakkoord Flexibilisering Lerarenopleidingen) and data about the number of academic teachers in training.
